Article Title: Caribbean Mangrove Swamps
Author: Klaus Rützler and Ilka C. Feller
A mangrove swamp is where the land and sea intertwine. Mangroves are still unknown and hold a lot of surprises for researchers. Scientists still struggle to define the environment of a mangrove swamp. However, mangrove swamps are classified as either mainland or oceanic island. Mangrove communities only develop near the sea because they cannot compete with freshwater flora. They can only survive where the water is above 73 degrees Fahrenheit. Mangroves are important because they support a variety of animals and scientists are still discovering new species.
I didn't know what mangrove swamps were until after reading this article. I learned that mangroves are important to the environment because they provide food and habitat to many species. But mangroves are cut down to make room for housing or factories. It is difficult for mangrove trees to recover because of the irreversible changes in the structure of the ecosystem once the trees are destroyed. We should just leave mangrove forests alone because they're vital to ecosystem and if they are cut down, it may be impossible for them to come back.

- A mangrove swamp is where land and sea intertwine.
- Mangrove trees are able to exclude or expel salt from their tissues.
- Mangrove communities only develop near the sea because they cannot compete with freshwater flora.
- Can only survive where water is above 73 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Mangroves are classified as mainland or oceanic island.
- Mainland groves border continental coasts and are sandwiched between fresh and salty water.
- Support varieties of animals - the loss will threaten the natural wealth of the ocean.
- People cut down trees to build houses or facilities.
